Heart of Iowa Big Brothers Big Sisters has partnered with the Iowa Department of Public Health through a prevention grant. Recognizing the power and impact a mentor can have in helping a child to make good choices and avoid risky behaviors, we know that it starts with a conversation about difficult topics, listening and being present.
Bigs help to instill hope, introduce children to positive and healthy activities, empower kids to set goals, and encourage them to grow into confident, competent members of the community. Positive outcomes from this one on one mentoring include increased self -esteem, improved student academic success, increased connection to the school community, and improved positive social interactions.
