BIGLITTLE SPOTLIGHT
Meet Todd & De'Quan
De’Quan was 6 years old in 2002 when his mom enrolled him in Big Brothers Big Sisters. She was raising 6 children as a single mom and De’Quan’s father was in prison. When he was introduced to Big Brother Todd, De’Quan told his mom, “they got me the wrong color brother!” It only took about an hour to warm up to Todd and begin a great experience for both of them. They shared many activities together but football was a favorite. De’Quan wanted to play in the NFL. While encouraging his dreams, Todd also always reminded him to work hard in school. And he did. De’Quan graduated from Marshalltown High School in 2013 on the honor roll. Todd was still by his side, 12 years later, with friendship and support. From Ellsworth Community College, De’Quan was recruited to play for the Oregon Ducks! Todd didn’t miss the opportunity to watch him play against Nebraska in 2016. Todd recently shared that De’Quan wouldn’t be where he is today if it wasn’t for Big Brothers Big Sisters!
